Redeveloping a poker affiliate platform around real iGaming know-how and a hybrid delivery model
How we rebuilt PokerDeals’ affiliate platform from the ground up in just over four months – bringing in the iGaming affiliate expertise the client was specifically looking for, combining fixed-scope product delivery with embedded consulting for their internal team, building a custom data architecture purpose-designed for poker affiliate operations, and adapting pre-existing designs into a fully block-based WordPress system.

KEY PROBLEMS BEFORE COLLABORATION
Challenges
An existing platform that wasn’t built for affiliate scale. The previous iteration of PokerDeals couldn’t support the data-driven content model the business actually needed – hundreds of poker rooms, comparison parameters, bonus structures and editorial entries all interacting at once. The client knew the existing setup couldn’t carry the business forward.
Pre-existing designs that weren’t built for the technology underneath. The client arrived with completed visual designs they wanted to honour – but those designs hadn’t been created with WordPress’s block-based architecture in mind. Translating them faithfully into a maintainable Gutenberg implementation was a project in itself.
A need for genuine iGaming affiliate expertise, not just execution. PokerDeals was specifically looking for a partner who understood the operational reality of affiliate work – the data structures, the SEO architecture, the content scaling patterns. They didn’t want a generic WordPress agency; they wanted iGaming domain expertise applied to their platform.
A small internal team that needed to stay autonomous. The client didn’t want a black-box delivery — they wanted to be able to run, extend and operate the platform themselves after launch. That required more than just code; it required knowledge transfer built into the engagement.
What we had to solve
- Redevelop the entire platform on a foundation designed specifically for iGaming affiliate scale
- Translate the client’s pre-existing designs into a block-based Gutenberg implementation without losing the intended visual identity
- Architect a custom data model capable of managing the complexity of an iGaming affiliate operation
- Apply WLC’s accumulated iGaming affiliate know-how to the platform – not as an add-on, but as a core deliverable
- Equip the client’s internal team to operate, extend and publish on the platform after delivery
- Deliver a lean, performance-first WordPress build with green Core Web Vitals from launch
- Build a search and content architecture ready to scale organically on the US market
OUR SOLUTION
Our solution for PokerDeals
WLC structured the engagement around a hybrid delivery model – combining fixed-scope product delivery with embedded consulting for the client’s internal team. The platform was redeveloped from the ground up on WordPress, applying WLC’s accumulated iGaming affiliate expertise to every layer of the build: a custom data architecture purpose-designed for the affiliate business, a complete library of Gutenberg blocks and patterns adapted from the client’s pre-existing designs, and a knowledge transfer track ensuring the client’s team could operate the platform autonomously after launch.

SOLUTION 05
Embedded consulting and knowledge transfer for the client’s team
What we implemented
1. A hybrid delivery model
- The combination is rare and was deliberate. Fixed-scope product delivery gave the client a predictable platform redevelopment with a clear budget envelope. Embedded consulting alongside their internal team transferred the architectural knowledge they’d need to operate, extend and evolve the platform without re-engaging an agency for every change. By the time the platform went live, the client’s team understood it from the inside.
2. A custom data model for iGaming affiliate operations
- The core of the build: a dedicated Custom Post Type architecture – a Master Data layer – purpose-designed for the realities of an affiliate business. It allows the editorial team to manage hundreds of poker rooms, offers, comparison parameters and partner data structures directly from the WordPress admin, without ever touching the database or asking a developer for help.
3. A complete library of Gutenberg blocks and patterns
- The client arrived with pre-existing designs that weren’t created with WordPress’s block system in mind. We worked through them piece by piece – mapping the visual intent into a block-based architecture, building a library of custom blocks and patterns that recreated the designs faithfully while giving the editorial team the flexibility to compose new pages without breaking the design system. This is the deliverable the client uses every day.
4. SEO-first architecture designed to scale
- The site’s information architecture, URL structure and content model were redeveloped from the start with organic content scaling in mind – anticipating that the affiliate business would publish at volume across the US market, and the platform had to be ready for it.
5. Performance-first WordPress build
- Every layer of the build was optimised for weight and speed – minimising plugin overhead, keeping the frontend lean, and ensuring the platform launched with green Core Web Vitals across the board. For an affiliate site competing in search, this is a foundational asset, not a nice-to-have.
6. Knowledge transfer as a deliverable
- Beyond code: structured consulting time with the client’s internal team – covering architecture, content operations and platform extension patterns. The intent was simple: when WLC stepped back, the client’s team had to be ready to step forward.

Why it worked
- iGaming-native expertise applied from day one – the client came to WLC specifically for affiliate domain know-how, and got it baked into every layer of the build
- Hybrid delivery model designed around the client’s reality – fixed-scope where the client needed predictability, embedded consulting where they needed to grow their own capability
- Affiliate-specific data architecture – built around the operational reality of affiliate work, not retrofitted from a generic CMS approach
- Faithful design translation, not approximation – pre-existing designs implemented as a true block-based system, not “close enough”
- Knowledge transfer as a first-class deliverable – the goal wasn’t a successful launch, it was a successful long-term platform with the client’s team in control
